Bonner General Health opens new urology clinic

Bonner General Health has expanded access to specialty care with the Aug. 24 opening of its newest clinic, Bonner General Urology, under the leadership of urologist Ron Barrett. The clinic will provide urologic care for both men and women, ranging in severity from minor infections to cancer.

“The addition of urology is an important expansion of specialty care for Bonner General Health and the communities we serve,” stated BGH Chief Medical Officer Stacey Good. “Urologic conditions are common, particularly as people age, and having Dr. Barrett here means patients can receive evaluation and treatment closer to home.” 

Though often associated with prostate care, urologists also play an important role in women’s health. Common urologic concerns include kidney stones, bladder conditions, blood in the urine, bladder cancer, recurrent urinary tract infections, urinary difficulties and testicular issues. Barrett’s expertise will also allow BGH to expand its offerings to surgical procedures, such as vasectomies.

“Throughout my career, I’ve cared for many patients from rural communities who often traveled long distances for specialty care,” stated Barrett. “I’m excited to bring essential urologic services closer to home and to make a direct impact on the health and quality of life in the Sandpoint area.” 

A born-and-raised New Yorker, Barrett earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997 and completed his urology residency in 2002. He will take patients Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the new clinic, located in Suite 110 of 423 N. Third Ave., in Sandpoint.
