Sandemonium pandemonium at the library

Sandemonium, the perfect Sandpoint-sized comic con, is back Saturday, May 30 for one of two nerdy parties. The celebration of fan culture, science fiction, fantasy, games and everything else that makes life grand will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sandpoint branch of the East Bonner County Library (1407 Cedar St.).

Sandemonium invites attendees to don costumes from their favorite media — a.k.a. cosplays — grab their Dungeons and Dragons dice, movie props and video games, and spend the day playing, crafting, shopping and bonding over shared interests.

Throughout the day, anyone can join in tabletop role-playing games, Magic the Gathering competitions, mini-figure painting, DnD character creation classes, face painting and more. From 10 a.m. to noon, test your skills during open video game play with esports staples, virtual reality goggles and classic games like Mario.

The official opening ceremony begins at 11 a.m., followed by a host of all-ages cosplay, painting and game competitions. At 2:30 p.m. local improv group Mediocre at Best will perform in the library’s community rooms, and everything will wrap up at 4 p.m. with the closing ceremony.

For the first time, this May’s con won’t be Sandpoint’s only annual dose of Sandemonium; organizers have announced a second party Friday, Oct. 24. Details will be announced later this year on the con’s website, 7bcon.com, and its Facebook page.
