Bel Canto Opera presents Sinvergüenza

Bel Canto Opera invites audiences to celebrate the beauty, renewal and joy of spring with Singvergnügen, an evening of music featuring beloved classical selections and seasonal inspiration. The performance will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint’s Little Carnegie space (110 Main St., in Sandpoint). 

Singvergnügen (the joy of singing) is derived from the advertisement from Volkswagen’s famous commercial tagline “Fahrvergnügen” (the joy of driving).

“We have taken this word and reapplied it to this production as our singers wonder about the beauties of flourishing gardens with some unexpected surprises,” stated MCS Founder and Director Karin Wedemeyer. “We let our imagination run wild, improvise, tell stories and offer beautiful music.”

As the producer and artistic director of Bel Canto opera, Wedemeyer continues to infuse comedy into well-known operatic pieces from solos to duets and trios. This little opera was formed more than 10 years ago with a mission to reimagine opera and attract a new audience. 

The upcoming performance will feature Max Mendez as a guest baritone, Brenda Rutledge as the mezzo-soprano and Wedemeyer as the acting soprano. 

“You may be surprised, if you have always hated opera then this is for you,” Wedemeyer stated.  

Performers will lead audiences on a musical journey through springtime, showcasing the richness and emotional depth of the classical vocal repertoire.
