Serve Sandpoint event attracts 440 volunteers

Cedar Hills Church, Better Together Animal Alliance, Humble and Black Real Estate and other community partners and volunteers came together June 14 for the annual Serve Sandpoint event — a day dedicated to service projects in the area. 440 volunteers took on 19 different tasks, including the Good Neighbors Fencing Project, which sought to help pet owners keep their animals safe in their yards.

Volunteers processed and stacked 16 cords of wood for the Sandpoint VFW Post No. 2453, moved garden beds and prepped walls for paint in the Bonner Community Food Bank’s new building, did yard work for Bonner Homeless Transitions, held a fundraising carwash for Kaniksu Community Health, gardened and built a bridge at Pine Street Woods, built three dog fences for area pet owners and more throughout the day. Each project took a physical and financial burden off of local nonprofits and families in an effort to strengthen community ties.

“I just love this day and partnering with so many wonderful organizations in our community — just another example of us all working together to celebrate and strengthen our beautiful community,” stated volunteer Michele Murphree.
