Sandpoint Teen Center to host Hawaiian luau fundraiser

By Reader Staff

The Sandpoint Teen Center will host a Hawaiian luau-themed fundraiser on Wednesday, May 20 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church (526 S. Olive Ave.). The family-friendly night includes Hawaiian-inspired food and drinks, along with a silent auction, with all proceeds benefiting the teen center.

The fundraiser is free for kids and has a suggested donation of $20 for adults, which includes a dinner of smoked pulled pork or chicken, grilled pineapple and piña colada mocktails. Organizers are seeking donations from local businesses for the silent auction. Supporters can also sponsor a teen with a suggested donation of $25 so they can bid on silent auction items and continue practicing their budgeting skills.

The Sandpoint Teen Center serves approximately 150 teens daily between two locations, providing snacks and hot meals after school, as well as leading excursions to take teens bowling, paintballing and on educational trips. The center also spearheads the “Too Good For Drugs” program and promotes art and skill-building activities for local teenagers.

“In the last year alone we served over 950 individual teens,” volunteers stated in a news release.
