If you see dogs playing poker while dancing, Edvard Munch’s “Scream” enjoying a cocktail and Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe sipping Champagne while bidding on silent auction items, you could only be in one place: The Pend Oreille Art Council’s second annual Masterpiece Ball.
The unique fundraiser takes place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at The Hive (207 N. First Ave., in downtown Sandpoint).
Tickets are $50 and include Champagne, hearty hors d’oeuvres and desserts catered by Ivano’s, and live music by favorite local band Harold’s IGA.
Proceeds raised from the event will benefit the myriad of community programs sponsored by the nonprofit arts organization, including educational programs such as Kaleidoscope visual art instruction in local elementary schools, Ovations performing arts access for students, Expressions art classes for teens, Art for Life for area seniors and affordable art classes for adults in the Joyce Dillon Studio.

POAC also hosts annual community events including ArtWalk, the Arts and Crafts Fair in downtown Sandpoint and the Artist Studio Tour. The 48-year-old organization also partners to support the free Sandpoint Summer Series in Farmin Park and Shakespeare in the Park. POAC’s Gallery at 313 N. Second Ave. in Sandpoint showcases and supports local artists by displaying their artwork and hosting monthly gallery events.
The Masterpiece Ball is a unique event in which attendees are invited to dress as their favorite artist, piece of artwork, art genre, get colorful or just come as you are to support POAC’s artistic mission. In addition to eats and drinks, guests are also invited to peruse an array of fun silent auction and raffle items. There will be a photo booth to capture the spirit of the evening and a costume contest with prizes to celebrate attendees’ creativity.
“The success of this event is essential to POAC’s ability to provide Sandpoint with all the popular programs that our community has come to love and value for nearly five decades,” stated POAC Executive Director Tone Stolz. “We invite you to come support the importance of the arts in all of our lives, and especially to support arts education for local kids … and we guarantee you’ll also have fun doing it!”
Tickets are on sale now online at artinsandpoint.org, by phone 208-263-6139 or at the POAC Gallery, 313 N. Second Ave., in downtown Sandpoint.
Want to support independent local journalism?
The Sandpoint Reader is our town's local, independent weekly newspaper. "Independent" means that the Reader is locally owned and operated by people who were born and raised in Sandpoint. The Reader is owned by Publisher Ben Olson, Editor-in-Chief Zach Hagadone and Senior Writer Soncirey Mitchell. Sandpoint Reader LLC is a completely independent business unit; no big newspaper group or corporate conglomerate or billionaire owner dictates our editorial policy. And we want the news, opinion and lifestyle stories we report to be freely available to all interested readers - so unlike many other newspapers and media websites, we have NO PAYWALL on our website. The Reader relies wholly on the support of our valued advertisers, as well as readers who voluntarily contribute. Want to ensure that local, independent journalism survives in our town? You can help support the Reader for as little as $1.

Meet the Reader
Ever wonder who makes the Reader happen? Here's a behind-the-scenes look pieced together by summer 2017 intern McCalee Cain in which Ben, Cameron and Lyndsie explain what exactly about the Reader keeps them coming back to their shabby (but well-loved) office each week.
