After nearly three decades as a volunteer and auxiliary chairwoman at Bonner General Health, Margo Johnson has earned the Idaho Hospital Association’s 2026 Leader of Volunteer Excellence Award, recognizing her commitment to BGH and the community.

The LOVE Award celebrates outstanding volunteer leadership and service within Idaho hospitals and health systems.

“Bonner General Health is a better place because of Margo,” said Shannon Barnes, chief H.R. officer. “Her generosity, compassion and commitment have created a legacy of inspiring all of us for many years to come.”

Johnson has held every office within the Bonner General Health Auxiliary and has served as chairwoman for the past 11 years. During her 28 years and more than 11,300 volunteer hours, she has helped lead fundraising efforts, generating more than $100,000. Those funds have provided equipment, resources and education scholarships to staff across BGH’s departments. She further organizes other volunteers and fosters community through events, lunches and holiday celebrations like the employee-favorite Parade of Trees.

At 86, Johnson continues to volunteer with remarkable energy and dedication, always willing to step in wherever help is needed. Her decades of service have touched countless patients, caregivers, volunteers and community members and have helped make the BGH Auxiliary an enduring source of support for the hospital.
