Hey local artists: Design our ArtWalk cover and win $100

For the second year in a row, we’re hosting a cover design contest for POAC’s ArtWalk

If you’re curious why this week’s cover is blank, look no further. For the second year in a row, we’re hosting a cover design contest for Pend Oreille Arts Council’s annual ArtWalk event.

Here’s how it works: Either cut out the cover and mount it on a backing of some type (this will help, since newsprint is not very friendly to wetness or paint) or go to our Facebook today and grab the digital file from our post.

Then, create a work of art and send to [email protected] no later than June 15 for consideration to our cover contest. The winner of the grand prize will have their cover printed on the ArtWalk issue of the Reader in late June. Also, they will receive a $100 gift certificate to Eichardt’s Pub, good for food and/or beer.

We also have a youth division for under 13 years old with a special prize, so don’t forget to tell those kiddos to get their markers ready.

Last year we left it up to you to come up with a theme. This year, we’re throwing you a bone.

Submissions can be sent in any medium – photography, illustration, painting, digital manipulation – but they must include the color red in some way. That’s it!

It’s best if you take a high resolution photograph of your work, but if you’re not able, please bring your submissions to the Reader office, 111 Cedar St. Suite 9 (slip under the door if no one is there). Best of luck, artists! Don’t forget to leave room for the Reader flag on the top of the page.

While we have you ...

... if you appreciate that access to the news, opinion, humor, entertainment and cultural reporting in the Sandpoint Reader is freely available in our print newspaper as well as here on our website, we have a favor to ask. We're committed to continued free access to our paper and our website here with NO PAYWALL - period. But of course, it does cost money to produce the Reader. Want to support independent local journalism?

The Sandpoint Reader is our town's local, independent weekly newspaper. "Independent" means that the Reader is locally owned, in a partnership between Publisher Ben Olson and Keokee Co. Sandpoint Reader LLC is a completely independent business unit; no big newspaper group or corporate conglomerate or billionaire owner dictates our editorial policy. And we want the news, opinion and lifestyle stories we report to be freely available to all interested readers - so unlike many other newspapers and media websites, we have NO PAYWALL on our website. The Reader relies wholly on the support of our valued advertisers, as well as readers who voluntarily contribute. Want to ensure that local, independent journalism survives in our town?
