Cellist Alexis Mahler to play Panida Little Theater

Portland musician will be joined by Laurie Shook of Shook Twins

It takes a special kind of musician to quiet a room like Alexis Mahler.

Based in Portland, Ore., classically trained musician Alexis Mahler will perform a special solo show at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23 at the Panida Little Theater (300 N. First Ave., in downtown Sandpoint). 

Originally from Michigan, Mahler’s singular voice creates moments that are precious and delicate, playing an intimate blend of classical, jazz and folk on her cello that has endeared her to audiences across the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

“Music should be connective, accessible, expressive, expansive, often imperfect, healing — a release,” Mahler said. 

Opening for Mahler is her dear friend and roommate Laurie Shook, whose homegrown group Shook Twins has made Sandpoint proud for more than two decades, playing a spirited schedule of festival shows and collaborations with some of today’s greatest folk artists.
