BTAA welcomes new veterinarian

Local animal shelter and community nonprofit Better Together Animal Alliance will welcome veterinarian Talitha Neher to its team on Monday, Oct. 5, further supporting the organization’s mission to keep pets and families together by providing affordable animal necessities and medical services.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Neher to the BTAA team,” stated BTAA President and CEO Mandy Evans. “Her experience in animal shelter medicine, combined with her clinical and surgical expertise, plus her interest in behavioral medicine, will strengthen our ability to provide the veterinary care our shelter animals and community pets need.”

Born and raised in Sandpoint, Neher earned her doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Wisconsin in 2004. Her partnership with BTAA further expands the nonprofit’s community-based approach to animal welfare. The organization serves more than 8,000 animals each year through programs including low-cost spay and neuter services, Trap-Neuter-Return for community cats, the pet support hotline and the door-to-door Pets for Life program, which serves pets from under-resourced neighborhoods.

All programs are funded through private donations, grants, fees and proceeds from the nonprofit’s volunteer-led thrift store.

“The community makes this work possible,” stated Evans. “Veterinary care is one of the most important tools we have to keep pets healthy, address challenges before they become crises and give animals the best possible chance at a good outcome. Adding Dr. Neher to our team strengthens our ability to do that work.”
