Investigations continue into the fire that destroyed two historic downtown buildings and damaged another.
Despite the wide array of rumors circulating on social media, Sandpoint City Administrator Stapleton told a crowd at a downtown revitalization meeting Tuesday that there was no reason for rampant speculation.
“They believe at this point it was started in the basement of the building, and there’s no reason to suspect at this point that there was any foul play,” Stapleton said.

The Festival at Sandpoint announced a new system of releasing the 2019 lineup this year: one piece at a time!
Each week, starting Monday Feb. 25, the Festival will leak one performer from this summer's concert series.
Stay tuned Monday at 6 a.m. for the first announcement! Here's the full press release from the Festival:
"The Festival at Sandpoint will begin announcing the line-up for their 37th annual summer concert series earlier than ever this year with weekly announcements gradually revealing the headliners for the 2019 Festival season.
Every Monday, starting on February 25th, the Festival will announce one headliner and tickets will go on sale that day for that individual show. The weekly announcements will continue until the final artist is unveiled on April 1st completing the full Festival line-up.
Announcements will be made at 6:00am on Mondays via the Festival Facebook page, the Festival’s website www.festivalatsandpoint.com and Email Blast (subscribe for email updates on the Festival’s website).
“We are excited to share the line-up sooner this year and to give each Festival concert its own special attention,” said Festival Executive Director Dyno Wahl. “These weekly announcements will be a fun new way to focus on each artist and for Festival fans to anticipate the excitement of the full summer season!”
