LPOIC hosts lakebed cleanup in Bayview

By Reader Staff

The Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club hosted its annual Scenic Bay Cleanup Project from May 4-7, removing tons of debris from the waters around Bayview. The three-day event enlisted community volunteers, scuba divers and the U.S. Navy to clear debris from area kokanee spawning beds.

LPOIC is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing Lake Pend Oreille and its fisheries. Volunteers this year pulled debris from the water including tires, large pieces of metal and other trash.

The cleanup was sponsored by the Idaho Community Foundation via the Getts-Yonker Charitable Fund and Forever Idaho North, the Kalispel Tribe of Indians, the Charlie & Jylan Johnson Fund and LPOIC members’ donations.
