Join the ‘Friendship Revolution’ as a memory care volunteer

The Sandpoint Friendship Station — a branch of Sandpoint United Methodist Church’s Respite for All Ministry — is seeking new volunteers to support community members with memory loss and dementia. 

The group will host a volunteer training session, teaching new recruits about the program’s socialization activities, along with a complimentary lunch from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21 at 711 Main St. 

“We are creating a community where trained, dedicated and heartfelt volunteers serve as intentional, loving companions to join with our friends with memory loss and dementia,” stated organizers. “Participants are remembered and embraced for the treasure of who they are. We provide a nurturing and engaging environment in which we connect with our innate joy of being.”

Volunteers set up and participate in social events such as live music, games, arts and crafts, pet therapy, community projects and cognitive exercises. The weekly Wednesday sessions support community members with dementia, while giving their regular caregivers time to rest and recuperate.
