Irish rock legends The Young Dubliners to play Panida

After three decades as one of the world’s leading Irish-American rock bands, it’s safe to say The Young Dubliners are a pretty big deal.

The five-piece made up of Keith Roberts, Chas Waltz, Justin Pecot, Dave Ingraham and Ethan Jones will play Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. on the main stage of the Panida Theater (300 N. First Ave., in downtown Sandpoint).

Hard at work on their 10th studio album and always playing a busy tour schedule, members of the Irish-American rock band hailing from Santa Monica, Calif. have been playing their hearts out since they came together in 1988. 

Although The Young Dubliners’ sound is often called “Celtic rock,” that label is somewhat misleading. There are, indeed, Irish influences to the band’s music but several members have no Irish roots at all.

“The sound was intended as a hybrid because we all come from different backgrounds,” said Roberts.

With songs ranging from stadium-friendly extravaganzas to more intimate pub-sized opuses, The Young Dubliners have played their music everywhere from Jimmy Kimmel Live to TV shows like Sons of Anarchy, and have toured with diverse artists such as Collective Soul, Jethro Tull, Los Lobos and Chris Isaak to name a few.
