Award-winning bluegrass band Sister Sadie plays Panida

Grammy-nominated bluegrass band Sister Sadie will make the trip out West on Thursday, Aug. 6 for a show starting at 7 p.m. at the Panida Theater (300 N. First Ave., in downtown Sandpoint). 

The Nashville-based powerhouse has earned innumerable accolades, including becoming the first and only all-female group to win the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year.

Comprised of banjo player Gena Britt, fiddler Deanie Richardson, guitarist Dani Flowers, mandolin player Rainey Miatke, bassist Katie Blomarz-Kimball, and guitarist and lead vocalist Jaelee Roberts, the group will be among the most recognized artists at this year’s IBMA World of Bluegrass and awards ceremony, having racked up 11 nominations in total. Of those, individual members earned six nominations, demonstrating each band member’s talent and drive.

“One of the best things about being in Sister Sadie is playing with people who are recognized as the best at what they do,” stated Flowers. “We’re a band first — we’re friends — but there are still moments on stage when you look over at Gena or Deanie or hear Jaelee hit a line, and you’re just as amazed as the audience is.”

“I hope young girls see us and realize how exciting it can be to make music with your friends,” added Flowers.

The Aug. 6 concert will be two hours of bluegrass in its purest form, performed by musicians at the top of their game. The band will draw from its four studio albums, playing hits that range from toe-tappin’ dance numbers to wistful, contemplative ballads.
